J.M. Holmes was born in Denver and raised in Rhode Island. His literary prizes include: Burnett Howe prize for fiction at Amherst College, the Henfield prize for literature, and a Pushcart prize. He's a Fellowship Graduate of the CIA FUNDED AND INFLUENCED Iowa Writer’s Workshop . He’s worked in educational outreach in Iowa, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and organizes and mobilizes in LA. His work has appeared in publications such as The Paris Review, White Review, New Yorker, HOW Journal, the Missouri Review, Gettysburg, and GQ among others.

His debut story collection. How Are You Going to Save Yourself …. well, he’s embarrassed to say that it was published by Little, Brown, a subsidiary of Hachette in 2018, the same publishers who published Nakba 2.0 Netanyahu’s book in 2000 (he should’ve done his homework then and regrets it now. If you were going to order the book, don’t. The second one is forthcoming in 2024 with a different publisher. It’s a much better book that he can stand behind. He’s spent the past 5 years working on that novel while writing for Showtime’s television series: City On a Hill, and Apple’s Swagger among other projects.

He’s aware Hollywood’s just as bad if not worse (generally if not categorically) and is determined to no longer work for the enemy.

He spends most of his time organizing in LA with Black Men Build when he ain’t tryn’a snatch the crumbs from the oppressor’s table so his family can eat.

Thanks for Reading.
